What I found most appealing interning at PLus Media?
PLus Media, located at East 54d~ Street between Park Avenue and Lexington, was the company I completed my internship at. The fact that PLus Media was the first company that I interviewed for, the only thing that got my attention was their "TV Satellite Tour," which consists of a series of pre-booked interviews with television stations in selected cities across the country.
The TV Satellite Tour is done at "The Presentation Source", a studio, that is located at 1 gth Street and Park Avenue. Here the clients are provided with a unique and cost-effective way to showcase their product(s) in a news or news/talk program to various cities across the country.
Along with the TV Satellite Tour, I also had the chance to meet and work with numerous spokespersons. The representatives, who were professionals and experienced in their field, were friendly and courteous. Some of the delegates that I have met and enjoyed working with were Amy Stiller, actor Ben Stiller's sister, Chef Tell, a master chef, and Stephanie Oakes, a health and beauty expert. From their expertise I have learned so many new things that are now helping me with my everyday life.
How a TV Satellite Tour is put together?
On the day of the tour, the expert (spokesperson) greets each station live from the studios in New York City, and interacts with each station's anchor/show host. During the interview, the expert presents a pre-taped video segment or live table-top demo featuring all participating products/services and answers questions on the topic.
The satellite tour includes 15-20 interviews throughout a 2-4 hour satellite broadcast. Each interview is approximately 3-5 minutes long, and it reaches 15-25 to markets, with a combined total audience of approximately 5-12 million consumer impressions
What I found least appealing interning at PLus Media? My days at PLus Media was enjoyable. The reason for that was I learned so much from this particular firm. However one particular thing that I found least appealing was waking up early in the morning (6 AM) to go to the studio. As I continued going early to the studio, I became accustomed to it. I also got the chance to leave early and learn something new from each segment.
What were my assignments at PLus Media?
Interning at PLus Media was not only enjoyable, but also challenging. The assignments that were presented to me were more like "projects." I took those projects very seriously and thought of them as real jobs.
A day would start with a list of projects that were written down by the president or staff at PLus Media and it was left on my desk. After reading the list, my first project was to see if there were any envelopes that needed to be hand delivered to other companies. Other projects included answering the clients phone calls, photocopying final reports along with duplicating tapes for a specific client who wished to know more about a particular segment, which was previously recorded. There also came many times where I compiled press kits for television producers and PR clients.
At the studio I was in charge of the cue cards. My job was to write the talents name, which was the station's anchor or show host. I was also in charge of having the spokesperson know how much time he or she had for each interview. Therefore, by taking these projects seriously, it allowed me to be part of the crew at PLus Media.
What I accomplished from PLus Media?
I am so excited that I got the opportunity to intern at PLus Media. I have always thought about producing my own show or segment. I learned that producing a particular segment is not as simple as one might imagine. The responsibilities of a producer consists of developing and sending press kits to television stations in top TV markets, pre-booking all interviews, and creating indoor/outdoor studio sets and coordinating all the props. They also select models (if needed), write scripts and train the spokesperson, and finally arrange for all rehearsals and fittings (if needed).
All of this has to be done properly to make sure that the clients are satisfied. I have noticed that it is very different to please most clients. Since they are paying for the segment, one can lose a client very easily if certain things do not go their way.
From what I have experienced at PLus Media, I definitely want to become a producer. The work itself is challenging and I know that I can achieve all the responsibilities of a producer. Most of all, I want to have my own clients that I can interact with.
