News 12 Long Island has internships available in several areas of broadcast news. These include positions in:
Promotions assisting the Marketing Director in the creation and production of on-air, print and radio advertising for News 12 programming for two days a week.
Assignment Desk interns assist the assignment editor in the coordination and development of news stories and special segments, integrating the work of reporters and segment producers, dispatching crews, arranging interviews, and scheduling stories.
Production Assistant interns assist the production assistant who is responsible for helping the newscast producer in the completion of elements and preparation of newscast materials such as scripts, video tapes, reports, etc. Must also perform clerical and production tasks.
Special Projects PA interns help producers of special shows or projects, such as town meetings, elections, etc.
Guest Coordinator interns assist with researching and contacting potential Daytime Edition guests as well as other PA responsibilities.
Reporter Assistant interns help reporters with follow-up phone calls and preliminary research with the agencies involve on each story idea; contact people when stories airs; handle tape and script requests; answer questions on aired stories; pick up research clips from library and appropriate agencies; keep track of scripts and filing system; watch news feeds.
Sports Production learn what's involved in putting together a sportscast by viewing sports games, logging highlights, writing scripts, and editing tapes.
ENG interns assist t field camera operators.
Studio Operations Coordinator interns help the studio crew with handling audio microphones, cameras, floor managing, etc.
Meteorologist interns assist weather anchors on compiling data and putting together weather forecasts.
Graphics interns lean to create basic TV graphics. You will acquire a working knowledge of news technology through the use of the camera, stillstore, paintbox and beta deck equipment.
