WEEKEND NEWS
Weekend News is ABC's weekend news program. Anchors Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff bring viewers all of the latest news on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Interns play an essential role in the production of the evening news program on Saturdays and Sundays. They are responsible for managing the flow of information between correspondents and producers. They must remain levelheaded, but ingenious. Interns who can mix well with others, juggle several tasks at once, are efficient and act with integrity will have the most success here. Initiative, both through your approach to tasks and to playing a role in the development of the program, is not only highly respected, but is expected as a member of the show. Interns are included in some editorial meetings and in all aspects of television production.
Weekend News provides interns with valuable behind-the-scenes exposure to the making of a network news program. Students should display a serious interest in journalism and a sincere desire to learn more about the business. Although a major in communications is not a requirement, previous journalism-related internships and either print or broadcast curriculum are strongly suggested. Interns should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills as well as an interest in national and international affairs.
STOSSEL UNIT
The unit produces John Stossel's one-hour ABC specials in addition to weekly segments for the show 20/20. The intern's main responsibility is to support the producers through both clerical and research related tasks. The Stossel Unit is fairly small so talented interns are heavily relied upon and gain a hands-on learning experience in multiple facets of production.
BRIAN ROSS INVESTIGATIVE UNIT
The Brian Ross Unit, the investigative team at ABC News, seeks hardworking, bright college students who are passionate about investigative journalism. The 10-member Brian Ross Unit produces award-winning pieces for 20/20, World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, Primetime Good Morning America and Nightline. Applicants should have basic research and office skills. Interns do administrative work but also conduct extensive research for national and international stories, screen tape and learn about television news. There is tons of interesting work to go around and there are no limits to what the best interns can do.
Qualifications: Interns must be enrolled in college during their internship. They should be thorough, detail-oriented and past journalism experience is a plus. Interns should be able to work at least two days a week.20/20 AND PRIMETIME
This department is currently looking for interns for the news magazine shows 20/20 and Primetime. This unpaid internship must be for school credit. Students should have interest and ambitions in the journalism field. However, it is NOT for journalism students only. This internship's main objective is to teach broadcast and communication students what goes on behind the scenes in a news organization, particularly of news magazine shows. The students will learn what's involved in several aspects of production, from editing to reporting to story development, by participating with and observing our professional reporters and producers in action. The students also benefit from organized intern seminars hosted by our in-house professionals, producers, editors and on-air reporters.
