A. Purpose of Conference:
The Fifth International Language Conference took place in the City of Kavala,
Greece on May 9-13, 2002 organized by the Association for the Internationalization
of the Greek Language under the auspices of His All Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop
of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch of the Eastern Orthodox
Christian Church. Twenty (20) prominent scholars were invited to present papers.
The theme of the conference was: “The spreading of the Greek Language
in the countries around the World from the Ancient Times to the Present”.
Prof. Catherine Tsounis, of the Languages and Literature Department, St. John’s
University, New York participated. Her presentation was on the “Teaching
of Modern Greek as a Second/Foreign Language in the U.S.A.”
