GUIDELINES FOR WRITIG AND HANDING IN YOUR PAPER

For all of your written products, quality of writing will be one of the most important components of your grade. For example, the paper must be mechanically sound: Free of misspellings and grammatically correct. For each misspelled word or incorrect grammatical construction I find in your paper, I will deduct 2% points from its final grade. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you use the services of the Writing Center before submitting your written work to me. You should always review a printed copy of your own paper before submitting its final version to me. Please note that I consider inappropriate to have a professor or administrator not connected with the course review your paper. If someone other than yourself reviews your written work (e.g., Writing Center staff) you must indicate in a footnote the extent to which your paper has benefited from the assistance of others. I consider the failure to indicate such assistance an instance of academic dishonesty. Please also note that as a student taking psychology, your written work should, if applicable, be written in the style of the American Psychological Association. Under no circumstances will handwritten material be accepted (excluding, of course, raw data and statistical computations in Psy 2030).

Do not submit any type of plastic, paper, or any other type of covers for papers, homework, lab papers, etc. When necessary, all such work should be neat and stapled appropriately (staple should be placed at approximately 45 degrees from the top and left edge of the paper). No assignments will be accepted on ripped paper from spiral type binders. Extra credit essays or optional papers for Psy 1000 must be submitted to Turnitin. The same goes for term papers for all classes and for the final paper in Psy 2030.

FOR LAB PAPERS IN PSY 2030 AND TERM PAPERS IN COURSES OTHER THAN PSY 1000: In addition to submitting the paper to Turnitin, you must submit the final paper in a manila envelope and include the following:

a. All copies of journal articles cited in the paper. You need not submit copies of those articles that were on reserve. Copies of any other material that you use in writing your paper should be included.

b. All reference articles that you consulted for your paper must have markings (e.g., underlining) indicating those sections that were used to write your paper.

c. At least one TYPED early draft of the paper with evidence of substantial revisions and corrections penciled-in on the draft. Handwritten drafts or those with only corrected spelling errors are not acceptable.

d. For Psy 2030 papers only: All of the handwritten raw data, and data analyses (not typed).
