SEPTEMBER 1999

09/16/99: Happy Mexican Independence Day!  I am very pleased to announce that the WWW School Psychology Homepage has moved to a new server in keeping with the Webmaster's new position.  The site is now housed on a server at St. John's University, where yours truly is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology.  The site works just as it did before, however, I've eliminated the welcome music for now until because of some minor technical difficulties.  So update your bookmarks now, although if you use the old URL, you will automatically be taken to the new URL.

09/07/99: Added the homepage of the California Association of Licensed Educational Psychologists (CALEP).   The LEP license
in California is one of the few opportunities that School Psychologists have to work in private practice.  One of the goals of CALEP is to promote the license and get more school psychs in California to get it.  So if you work or are planning to work in California and are in any way interested in private practice, you need to check this site out.  It will also be listed under the Other Associations page for future reference.  Thanks to Ross Zatlin for the information and update.  Note: their site is still undergoing a bit of construction.

09/06/99: Added the NLD on the Web!.  This is a non-commercial, educational/information-only site and contains many full-text articles (on NLD, Assessment, and related issues), a list of conferences, journal references and other helpful resources - all devoted to increasing public awareness of this neurologically-based learning disability.  Thanks to Joan Scott, who along with another mother of a child with NLD, is the developer of the site.  It will be listed under the Miscellaneous Resources section.

09/01/99: For those of you who either don't like the music on the welcome page or you find that it might bother others around you (such as when accessing the page at work), I've added the option of being able to control the music.  If you're using Netscape, it'll appear either as a Live Update Crescendo mini-console or as a Netscape control box.  Either one provides a start, stop, pause, fast forward, rewind button, etc., and a volume control button (the one on the crescendo console is hard to see sometimes--it's a tiny little red square above the main buttons).  If, however, you have installed Quicktime for Windows v. 3.0 or above, you'll see a mini Quicktime console for handling the music.  It's not very elegant, but it works, and the midi synthesizer in Quicktime is exceptional.  If you're using MS Internet Explorer, you'll probably see a mini Media Player console, again with all controls, unless you have a different plugin installed.  In any event, whatever you're using, you should have full control over the music. Thanks go out to Beth Overstad for the suggestion.

JULY 1999

07/08/99: St. John's University in Queens, New York is pleased to announce a new Psy.D. program in School Psychology.  The program philosophy is based on the scientist-scholar-practitioner model of training which serves as a guideline for upholding the objectives of the program while being consistent with the University Mission Statement.  The School Psychology Doctoral Program has two tracks: General Track and a Bilingual Track.  The Bilingual Track trains psychologists who are fluent in two or more languages to deliver psychological services to children of linguistically diverse groups.  The Director of the School Psychology Doctoral Program is Raymond DiGiuseppe, Ph.D., ABPP, and the additional Core Faculty include, Dawn P. Flanagan, Ph.D., Jeffrey Long, Ph.D., Zheng Zhou, Ph.D., and Melissa Bray, Ph.D.  The link to St. John's University M.S. program in School Psychology in the Training Programs section has also been updated.

MAY 1999

05/25/99: Attention, assessment freaks.  I am very pleased to announce the addition of a new page by the Institute for Applied Psychometrics (IAP).  According to the Director, Kevin S. McGrew, the IAP was founded in 1998 and is devoted to the application of psychological/educational measurement and statistical concepts/procedures to applied issues and problems in education and psychology.  One of the most significant features of this site is the collection of information related to Gf-Gc theory.  If you are at all interested in the application of the Gf-Gc (Horn-Cattell and Carroll Tri-stratum model) theory of intelligence to the design and interpretation of psychological and educational tests, including Gf-Gc Cross-Battery Assessment (ala, McGrew, Flanagan & Ortiz) then this is your site. There is a lot of great information here for all school psychologists and trainers, especially those teaching assessment or statistics courses.

05/24/99: The APA Directorate has announced its 6th Annual Institute for Psychology in the Schools.  The theme for this year is "New Solutions for the Millenium: Violence Prevention for Children and Youth."  The institute is desgined to provide participants with information on some of the latest research on school/community violence prevention.  You can view the institute's brochure online or download a copy of the brochure in MS-Word format.  You can also view the registration form online or download a copy of the registration form in MS-Word format as well.

05/24/99: Ok, after a rather extended hiatus, I'm back to doing some updates now.  First, I've updated the link to New York Association of School Psychologists., AGAIN!!!  The organization's page has established itself within the "org" domain and shouldn't be moving any time soon!  Thanks to Tom Kulaga for the update.  You can also access their conference information page directly.

05/23/99: Added a link to the California School of Professional Psychology.  Their Los Angeles campus has recently begun a new Psy.D. program in school psychology.  Thanks to Naomi Schoenholz for the information.

APRIL 1999

04/27/99: For those of you looking for internships, I've added a new link to the Louisiana School Psychology Internship Consortium.  The site is maintained by Alan Coulter and offers great information about internship programs offered in the great state of Louisiana.  It will be permanently listed in the Employment Links section.

04/26/99: Updated the link to New York Association of School Psychologists.  The organization's page appears to have moved to a new home in Plattsburgh and seems to be maintained by Ron Dumont.  Thanks to Lily for the info!

NOVEMBER 1998

11/30/98: Ok, I'm back!!! Hope you didn't miss me too much.  I have just had a heck of a semester and unfortunately it cut deeply into my professional and personal responsibilities to the extent that I could not find a moment of peace with which to update the page.  Nevertheless, now that things have settled down, and I'm almost back to my former self, I'll begin updating the page much more regularly.  So look for lots more updates and new stuff very soon.  I'll begin with an old promise to post a link for Lucky Duck Publishing, a company in England that has a great program called the No Blame Approach to Bullying.  They aslo publish videos, books and training materials focusing on Behaviour Management, Bullying, Circle Time and Special Needs.  With the increased emphasis on functional analysis of behavior, this could be a very useful link for school psychologists.  It's also listed permanently under the Media Resources page.   It's good to be back!

AUGUST 1998

08/05/98: Updated the link to E-Z Communications, the publishers of E-Z Writer.

JULY 1998

07/10/98: The Media Resources page just keeps on growing! Today I added the PsychEd Solutions homepage. PsychEd publishes "PsyberScribe," formerly known as "ReportRite."PsyberScribe is computer assisted report writing software that takes a "different approach to conventional report writing programs." Their web site also carries employment links and discussion forums, although these features are momentarily down as they revamp their site. But look for them soon. PsychEd Solutions will be listed permanenly under the Publishers heading of the Media Resources page and on the Employment Links page.

07/09/98: Added the American Guidance Services, Inc. web site. AGS publishes the popular Kaufman family of tests along with the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test. You can browse and order tests directly from their site. They'll be permanently listed under the Media Resources page under the heading of Publishers.

07/05/98: I've just added a couple of links that may be of interest to those of you who need to write many reports or are just in need of help in writing one well. I've added E-Z Communications, the publishers of E-Z Writer, and Ewing Solutions, the publishers of QuickWriter. Both of these programs are software that facilitates computer assisted report-writing. Check out their offerings, it could be just what you're looking for. They will be permanently listed on the Media Resources page. Look for them under the Publishers heading.

07/03/98: Due to popular demand, I've updated the Employment Links section to help folks with job searches. Using these links you should be able to find a job (that's listed) anywhere in the U.S. Happy hunting!

JUNE 1998

06/11/98: Added the very comprehensive site of Sandy Steingart called School Psychology Resources Online. If you are looking for information related to school psychology or psychology in general, this is probably the best place to start. It's permanently listed in the School Psychology Homepages section.

06/07/98: In response to numerous requests, I've expanded the Training Programs section to include just about every school psychology program that exists in the U.S. today (and a couple in Canada!). The programs are listed alphabetically with degrees available and whether they have APA or NASP accreditation noted as well. If you're looking to go to graduate school, or just looking to see what other programs are doing, then this is the online directory for you!

06/06/98: Added a couple of entries to the School Psych Pages section, including the School Psychology/Counseling Internet Resources: An Annotated Bibliography, which hails from Buley Library compiled and administered by Shirley Bickoff Cavanagh. Also added is the School Psychology and Related Links page from East Carolina University. Both have lots of links that are invaluable to school psychologists and counselors alike. Also added the East Carolina University School Psychology Program homepage to the Training Programs section.

06/04/98: For those of you who can't get enough, I've added instructions on how to subscribe to the NASP listservs. Listservs can be a great source of information and a place to get answers to questions you think nobody could possibly know anything about. Instructions are located at the bottom of the Media Resources section. I'll be posting instructions on how to subscribe to other listservs of interest in the future, but for now, go have some fun with email!

06/04/98: Added Planet Press to the Media Resources section. Planet Press is a nonprofit California Corporation established in 1981. Their joint missions are to (a) develop software and (b) assist human service providers in managing technology. They offer software, publications, workshops, and consulting services to School Psychologists, Clinical and Industrial Psychologists, Administrators, and others interested in achieving increased quality of care, effectiveness and efficiency.

06/02/98: Updated the Media Resources section, in particular the Periodical and Journal listings. You should be able to find much of what you need there now.

06/01/98: Due to popular demand, I've created a whole new section on Employment Resources. This section will replace the old K-12 resources which I've moved to the Miscellaneous Resources section. You will find many links in this new section that can help you with a successful job search. Good luck.

06/01/98: Added the Illinois School Psychology Association and the University of Wisconsin (Madison) homepage. There are now 22 state associations listed. I'll be doing a major update soon to the links to expand many of the sections. So stay tuned for further developments.

MAY 1998

05/28/98: Added the Student Affiliates in School Psychology Home Page to the School Psychology Pages section. If you're an undergraduate or graduate student in school psychology, or are interested in becoming one, this is a great source of information for you.

05/10/98: Added The Global School Psychology Network, a site that describes an innovative professsional development community on the internet for school psychologists which focuses on peer support, problem-solving assistance, and research. The site's professional development community has added a new group discussion, "Theme of the Month." May's theme is affective disorders and June's theme will be behavior problems. You can join the professional development community by contacting Louis Kruger. Another very cool new feature on this web site is their school psychology audio programs. Right now you can hear comments on Judith Heumann's NASP keynote address in Orlando, FL. The other program is an interview with Philip Bowser, NASP web editor, and is part of a continuing series of interviews on "The Road Less Traveled: Celebrating the Diversity of Careers in School Psychology." In order to hear the audio programs, you need the RealPlayer, which is free and can be downloaded from http://www.real.com/products/player/index.html. They are also looking out for people's feedback and ideas about future audio programs.

05/09/98: Added a little "midi" music to the welcome page. You should recognize it as the Peanuts' theme song, "Linus & Lucy." Let me know if you like it, hate it, want to keep it, trash it, or whatever. Thought it might give you a little thinking music while you decide where to go!!

APRIL 1998

04/29/98: I just checked out all of the state association listings and updated all of them (except for Nebraska which needs to be corrected by their web master--I have requested that they attend to it) and they all work now and take you directly to their new sites. Seems that many state associations start out on personal web sites, then move on to educational ones, and finally on to commercial servers. Thus, they tend to change their URL's so often, it's hard to keep up. But I've done it! Each one is accurate and will get you right where you want to go.

04/28/98: Corrected the link to the California Association of School Psychologists, on the State Associations page. Thanks to Autumn Ediger from Nebraska for pointing out the problem with the link.

04/09/98: Changed the Libraries page to Media Resources to reflect an emphasis on resources related to print and other media. That section will now contain links to libraries, periodicals, and publishers of various media.

04/02/98: Deleted the Ed Law listing under the Legal and Government resources page due to the fact that they seem to have gone commercial and can only be accessed if you are a paying customer. Thanks go out to Joe Janetti from SUNY College at Plattsburgh for the update.

04/02/98: Added the Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment to the Periodicals section under the Libraries and Periodicals page.

MARCH 1998

04/01/98: Unless you're a first time visitor, you must have noticed the complete overhaul of this site. I've redone the whole interface, color scheme, navigational system, graphics, etc. I've added animation, java scripting and other touches here and there to give the site an up to date look. Hope you like it!

03/23/98: CASP is back! Corrected the link to the California Association of School Psychologists, thanks to Steve Jones from Fresno Pacific University for the information.

03/20/98: Changed the section previously called "Legal and Educational Resources" to "Legal and Government Resources." Also added the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) and its subordinate component the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to this section. If you write grants, this is a good place to go. They also have great information on and the official text of the new IDEA.

03/11/98: Corrected the name of the Wisconsin School Psychologists Association, thanks to Scott Everson for pointing out the typo.

FEBRUARY 1998

02/12/98: Looking for the new IDEA regulations? Want the entire text for some good late night reading? Or are you just looking for more good legal resources to battle the parent advocates with? Well, here's your site. Education Administration Online can provide you with these resources and more. It's an incredible site and will be placed under the Legal and Educational Resources section.

02/11/98: Added The APA Division 16 - School Psychology Homepage. It will be permanently listed under School Psychology Web Pages.

02/10/98: The School Psychology Associations is now called State School Psychology Associations and the School Psychology WWW Pages section is now called School Psychology Web Pages and includes both private pages and organization pages.

JANUARY 1998

1/20/98: The School Psychology Associations links have been updated. There are now 21state associations listed as well as NASP and Trainers of School Psychologists web site. Check 'em all out.

01/13/98: Added R. David Freedman's The School Psychologist's Home Page. David maintains this great site which should serve as a model for school districts to follow in disseminating information about school psychologists as well as information for school psychologists. Check it out, it's got lots of useful stuff, excellent ideas, great graphics, and is just plain fun. All districts should have such a site! It'll be permanently listed under the category of School Psychology WWW Pages.

01/13/98: Added Findlaw - Internet Legal Resources. This is an incredible site for looking up actual text of case law from U.S. District Courts and the Supreme Court! You can read Lau v. Nichols for example and other landmark educational decisions.

NOVEMBER 1997

11/09/97: Added Lehigh University School Psychology Program.

11/8/97: Added Joan Fleitas' awesome homepage called Bandaides and Blackboards. As Joan describes it, "My interest is in the lived experiences of children going to school with medical issues, and my project is designed to use the data that I've gathered from them to sensitize young school children to what it's like to grow up with medical problems. To that end I have developed a web site, incorporated data into a story for first, second and third graders, designed strategies of inclusion, identified links for parents and teachers, interviewed hospital kids about equipment and experiences so that they could, through the web, orient others, and created web pages to tell the stories of some of the children who participated. Any comments and suggestions will be welcomed and incorporated into the site. Hope that you'll have time for a visit!" I strongly recommend a visit to this site devoted to issues all school psychologists must deal with and for which there is little information.

11/7/97: Ok, I've decided to let you have the best of both worlds. Psychat is now available in two flavors, a public chat room (hosted by ChatPlanet) and a more private chat room (hosted by ParaChat). Check out the new Psychat page and choose the room that's right for you. Get to it either from the Table of Contents above or from the Psychat information section below.

SEPTEMBER 1997

9/25/97: Will it never end? It seems that Para Chat has major incompatibilities with the Mac Operating System. Because many of my students use Mac's, I've deciced to go back to Chat Planet's service and hope that someday in the distant future, they'll give me my SchoolPsych chat room back. Keep checking in for future scheduled events in the chat room.

9/24/97: Well, it seems that Chat Planet (the people who sponsor the SchoolPsych chat room) have been unable to resolve their "technical" problems and I've had about enough of them. I have installed a chat application from Para Chat (another public chat provider) that is infinitely more reliable, stable, and loads much, much quicker!. It's a more private room, and unless you hang around for a while, there might not be much company in the room (unless you arrange to "meet" someone there). I am going to try to schedule special events in the future, which will be posted here and will be open to whomever may be interested. Currently, I hold a seminar online once a week with students in my Hispanic School Psychology course and it works great. So keep an eye out for special events that will be coming up.

9/23/97: Update. The Computer-Mediated Consultation Project web site has been updated. Follow this link to the site run by Dr. Louis Kruger of Northeastern University. The project will be sending out a packet of information and software to people who are interested in joining the network. The purpose of the project is to develop a global, computer network of school psychologists who are dedicated to providing one another with problem-solving assistance and peer support in a collaborative community. Our hope is that this community will serve as a model for how computer-mediated collaboration can be used to enhance professional development and empower educators to solve problems. School Psychologists (including graduate students, and university and field supervisors) are Invited to join the Computer-Mediated Consultation Project. They will need to know your snail-mail address as well as what type of computer you use (Mac vs. IBM-compatible). Click on the link for more information.

9/10/97: Due to some technical difficulties on the part of Chat Planet (the people who sponsor the SchoolPsych chat room) when you attempt to connect in order to chat, you will temporarily be redirected to the "Seminar" room instead. You may use this room as a temporary location for Psychatting until Chat Planet gets their act together to resurrect the actual SchoolPsych room. Sorry for the past inconvenieces in using the room, it wasn't my fault! Honest!

JULY 1997

7/31/97: Added School Psychology Chat Room -- Psychat. This is a very cool new way of using the Web to meet and chat with other school psychologists. My hope is that it will become a forum for discussion of the various issues in the profession. Check it out.

MAY 1997

5/17/97: Added Web Crawler Select: New Sites this Week. This is an updated link for finding new sites on the web in various categories.

5/16/97: Check out the new Trainers of School Psychologists Web Site.  The site seeks to provide information regarding the training of future school psychologists.

5/10/97: Added University of Northern Colorado's School Psychology Training Program.

5/10/97: Judy Johnson, M.A. maintains the School Psych Web Site homepage at the University of Northern Colorado.  The page is a resource which has links to a variety of web sites which are relevant to school psychology.  Sites include information on assessment, psychology journals, disabilities, education and other related information. Judy's page also includes a listing of the Highest Rated Web Sites(for school psychologists) and their addresses.  This page came in 15th!

APRIL 1997

4/23/97: Dr. Louis Kruger of Northeastern University announces the establishment of the Computer-Mediated Consultation Project. The project is a collaborative electronic community of school psychologists and teachers designed to provide peer support and problem-solving assistance in regard to at-risk students. They are interested in recruiting new members for their computer network and now have two different types of problem-solving and peer support "neighborhoods". One is designed for school psychology practitioners and public school teachers, and the other is for university and field supervisors and their school psychology graduate students. To join the network, you will need an Internet connection (which you already have if you're reading this). They will supply the software and a training tape on how to use the network. Participants also would have to agree to complete questionnaires and have their messages used as research data. Check out their web site for more information.

4/15/97: Added Texas A&M University-Commerce's School Psychology Training Program.

4/3/97: The Online Culture and Language Learning home page is up and running. It debuted this week at NASP/CASP in a presentation I gave on Thursday. If you're interested in using technology to enhance your multicultural or linguistic competence, this is your site.

MARCH 1997

3/30/97: The School Psychology Associations links have been updated. There are now 13 state associations listed as well as NASP. Check 'em out.

3/1/97: AGS is seeking Beta testers of a new multimethod system designed to help track the effects of treatment on children with ADHD. For complete information, see http://www.agsnet.com/beta/adhdb.html
